Small Step

Yesterday we took another small step towards parenthood. After exorbitant amounts of searching online and retail stores we finally decided on our baby bedding. It took some time and a lot of compromise but here it is!

We will post actual pictures once we get everything in. Now the next big decision is what color to paint his room?

The Bare Necessities

This past weekend Brad and I started our baby registries. Let me just say, it was just as overwhelming as it was hilarious. Our first stop was Target, where we were given a scanner and a “must have “list. First of all, we didn’t know what half of the items of the list were and we were confused why we needed so many of these items. That excursion didn’t last long.

Next, we went to Babies R Us. If you have ever been there, you can imagine how overwhelming that shopping trip was. We were given another scanner and a “must have” checklist and then were set free in this sea of baby gear. First on the list…..bottles. AHHH WHAT!!! There were so many, how could anyone make that decision. I quickly made a phone call to my friend Janna for some advice. She is a new mom, so I knew she would be in “the know”.

We then decided that we should just chill and have fun with this. Well, Brad had lots of fun with the scanner. At times I could not see what he was scanning, but I could hear beep after beep after beep. It was a fun day and even funnier when we reviewed the 11 pages of items we had scanned..ended up with 8 swaddling blankets….I wonder how that happened.

The crazy thing about the baby registry is that it is actually things you need, which is different from a wedding registry that is primarily stuff you want. It is hard to imagine right now how one little 8lb baby will use or need all of those things to survive…or maybe most of those things are to help Brad and I survive.

P.S. Baby is perfect, healthy and right on track. Momma is still feeling great and Daddy is still bragging about his baby boy! Also, Jack is ready to meet his little brother.

Moving in the right direction

Today we picked up the furniture for the baby's room. Here are a few pictures of the furniture and me assembling the crib for my little guy. Next step is bedding, then paint, but at least we are moving forward.

Thanks to the Andersons and the Jaegers for lending a helping hand.

P.S. Still haven't come up with a name yet.

The Day of Sex

No, its not what you think, although I hate to rule it out!! Tomorrow is the day we find out the sex of our baby (already 19 weeks). Shasta's appointment is at 9:00am and we will be there anxiously waiting by 8:50. We will be sure to post it as soon as we find out, so keep checking!

Telling the Grandparents

We knew the moment we told our parents would be special, but we had to do it in a Brad & Shasta sort of way. So what did we do?…bought them electronics….a web camera for their computers! We couldn’t wait any longer and on a whim decided to drive into Lafayette to tell the Bertrands and Peltiers. Unfortunately, we had to fabricate a web of lies as an explination of why we were coming in so last minute. I think we told the Bertrands that my friend Sadi was having a party to celebrate her 30th birthday…which she did, just not that weekend. We told my parents that everyone was getting together at Jimmy’s to watch College Football and we really wanted to see everyone.

We arrived at the Bertrands and planned to tell them right away, but there was a relative there visiting and spending the night. Brad and I were dying inside and thought our plan was doomed. During the first moment alone with Brad's parents our plan sprung into action. Brad walked into the living room and handed Ms. Jenny the webcam telling her how much we love ours and that we thought they would like to have one too. She and Mr. Keith both seemed puzzled but thanked us anyway. Ms. Jenny then says, “O, this would work whenever they have a baby”. Brad then said, “Yeah, we knew you guys would need it when our baby comes”. It took a moment to sink in and the first screams were heard “I’m going to be a Grandmother”. I think Mr. Keith was still in shock and Ms. Jenny kept up her screaming.

The next morning we woke up early and headed to my parents house. They were both sitting outside when we got there, so we walked up holding the webcam. We gave them the same “line” and they both thought it was a cool gift. I then said “yeah, we thought you could use it when our baby comes”. After a second it finally sunk in and the tears starting flowing. You see I am an only child and you can imagine how important it is, for my parents, that I am pregnant with their first grandbaby.

A long long time ago….

So we wanted to give all of you an insight into the morning Brad and I saw the two lines on the POSITIVE pregnancy test.

We both had just gotten back from weekends away for Holly and Doug’s bachelorette/bachelor parties. When I flew home from Lafayette on the Sunday, something was different, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. So when Brad got home I took a pregnancy test. Well, one line was solid and the other line was really faint, but there were still two lines. I didn’t know what to think, but I wanted to take another one to be absolutely certain….BUT I WAS OUT OF TESTS. AHHHH!

I told Brad I would buy some more on Monday and when he got home from work I would “pee”. Brad didn’t get home from work on the Monday until 11pm, which never happens, so the agony continued. When my alarm went off on the Tuesday morning, we both got up and hurried into the bathroom because it was time for me to “pee”. After following the directions carefully, I put the test on the floor and slid it under the scale. The anticipation of watching it change would have been too much for us. After 3 minutes, I slid it out from under the scale and we immediately saw the two dark lines of this positive pregnancy test……and the first words out of our mouths were “Oh, s*%t”.

Even though we were planning and ready for it, it was still a shock, but very exciting. Brad gave me a hug and a kiss and we both started laughing. We giggled the entire time we were getting ready for work that morning.
